Dorado’s Philosophy

Although it is the swimmer’s effort, there is no substitute for a parent’s support. Do not worry about the swimmer’s performance in a meet. If strengthened swimming skills and increased knowledge has occurred, then a prize has truly been won.

El Lago Dorado’s History and Goals

The El Lago Dorado’s Swim Team encourages area youngsters to develop an appreciation for competitive swimming in an environment that stresses good sportsmanship and skill improvement. As a founding member of the Clear Creek Swim League, the Dorado’s were league champs from 1972-1979. With the continued growth of our team, we anticipate an equally bright future.

Swimmer’s Pledge

  • We pledge to participate in swimming events to develop swimming skills, teamwork, the principles of good sportsmanship, a love for the sport, and the pleasure gained from a good and hard fought contest.
  • We pledge to respect and support the coaches, team members and parents.
  • We pledge to be gracious in both winning and losing.

Absenteeism

Due to scheduling demands for meets, an ABSENCE NOTIFICATION form MUST be filled out and placed in the folder located on the picnic tables during practices by Wednesday. You may also email Dianna Liberty at libertymd@earthlink.net. Your failure to notify is unfair to other swimmers whose events could be cancelled. Coach Kim cannot be expected to remember any family’s schedule. In the event of an emergency, please call Chris Dempsey at 281-326-1467 or email ???.

Fundraising

The El Lago Dorados participate in the “Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Swim-a-long” at a practice in June. All money raised is divided, 55% to JDRF and 45% to our swim team. The JDRF is a wonderful cause and we ask that you encourage your children to participate. The money raised from this fundraiser helps defray coaching and equipment expenses. Please support your child and the cause.

Team Pictures

David Elmer Photography will take individual and team pictures at the El Lago Pool. You are asked to wear your suit and Dorado T-Shirt on picture day. Pictures will be distributed before the end of the season.

Team Party

The El Lago Dorados will celebrate the conclusion of the swim season with an Awards Dinner in August prior to the start of school. We are currently planning to have this on Sunday, August 24. This is a wonderful party and everyone in the family is encouraged to attend. Flyers will be mailed to team members in early August and you will need to make reservations at that time.

Meet Procedures

All swimmers should arrive by 7:00AM for meets. They need to check in immediately with the TENT PERSON upon arrival. If you are not there by 7:00AM, you may be scratched from events and therefore unable to compete. BE ON TIME!

The TENT person will write the numbers of the events in which you are to swim on your arm. Those events are listed on the last 2 pages.

Swimmers are to remain with their team members in the “Tent Area” during the meets. They will be called to the “Ready Area” prior to each event that they swim. Events will be started on schedule whether or not all swimmers are present. Often two events are swum together to help the meet move faster. IT IS THE SWIMMER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO REPORT ON TIME TO AN EVENT!

Ribbons and Times

Ribbons will be available to swimmers on the next practice day. The swim time is written on the backside of the ribbon. Swimmers who make the cutoff times are eligible to swim in the corresponding end-of-year meets. All swimmers 12 and under may swim in the novice meet, but must swim the reserve time to enter the reserve meet.
*All swimmers 13 and older may swim in the end-of-season reserve meet, regardless of their time.
